BCU 1 Star canoe course

The 1 Star award is the entry level paddlesport certificate offered by the British Canoe Union. This 1 day course takes place just outside Taunton and covers all the skills needed to achieve the 1 Star award.

The course:
During the course you will look at equipment, be introduced to a range of paddling strokes and skills, learn self-rescue techniques, gain confidence in capsizing and undertake a journey. We do our best to tailor the course to your needs, and there will be plenty of time to practise and gain full confidence in all the newly taught skills. The details of what the BCU 1 Star includes may be found in the 1 Star syllabus.

What to bring:
Your normal paddling gear if you have it and some lunch. If you need to hire a boat or paddling equipment this can be arranged for a minimal sum. The course will include getting wet with practice capsizes and rescues, so you will need dry clothing for afterwards and appropriate paddling clothing for the season – feel free to ring to discuss.
