Introduction to Map Reading

Not sure where to begin? Want to learn to use map and compass to guide you? This one day course will give you the skills and confidence to begin using map and compass to explorer the great outdoors. This course is based on the Quantock Hills and is perfect for anyone of any age wanting to learn or improve their navigation and map-reading.

Advanced Map Reading

If you are accustomed to using a map and compass to navigate, but wish to improve to be more confident in tackling more challenging terrain or weather then this course may be for you. This one day course offers you improved confidence and ability in navigating outdoors with map and compass. This course takes place on Dartmoor.

NNAS Bronze

The National Navigation Award Scheme Bronze Award is a great introduction to map reading for walkers wishing to navigate footpaths in ‘gentle, rolling terrain in lowland areas’. The two day course will introduce you to a range of map types and give you a fantastic arsenal of skills to employ to navigate with map and compass. The course will take place on and around the Quantock Hills with a day on moorland and a day spent around farmland.

NNAS Silver

The Silver National Navigation Award Scheme takes your navigational skills up a notch to include navigating off paths through open country and a range of associated skills. This is a 2 day course taking place around Exmoor.
